Eggs, Your Way: Introducing Everyday Essentials

Flat-lay photograph of a full cardboard carton with a dozen brown eggs arranged in two rows on a textured stone countertop.

Starting August 10, you decide whether eggs come with your order.

We're always looking for ways to make Blue Apron work better for your kitchen. Earlier this year, we asked if you’d be open to using everyday ingredients you already have on hand if it meant paying less for your recipes and 72% of you said yes. So we built something new.

What's changing

Beginning with recipes shipping August 10, eggs are no longer automatically packed into your Meal Kits. If a recipe calls for eggs, you’ll have two options:

  1. Use eggs you've already got at home.

  2. Add a dozen organic, pasture-raised eggs through our new Everyday Essentials section for $6.99.

Recipes that need eggs are clearly labeled on the recipe page and card, and they'll show up again in your What You'll Need list before checkout, so you'll always know ahead of time.

And because eggs are no longer built into the box, we've lowered the price on every recipe that calls for them. Same great recipe, smaller bill.

Why we're doing this

Everyday Essentials is a new way to shop for the fridge and pantry staples you likely already keep on hand, starting with eggs, with more to come. It gives you more flexibility to cook with what you have, and it lets us pass real savings on to you instead of charging you for eggs you may not need.

Salt, pepper, and olive oil have never come in the box. Eggs are just joining that list.

What this means for your next order

More flexibility, less waste in your fridge, lower prices on egg recipes. Already have a carton on hand? Use it. Out of eggs? Add organic, pasture-raised ones to your cart before your order cutoff — no store run required.

A little something to ease the transition

We know a change like this can catch you off guard, especially if you were counting on eggs showing up in your next box. So use code EGGS on an upcoming order for a free dozen organic, pasture-raised eggs.*

*Valid on one upcoming order. See site for full terms.

Help us shape what's next

Eggs are just the start. We'd love to know which staples — oils, vinegars, pantry go-tos — you'd like to see in Everyday Essentials next. Email us at contact@blueapron.com and tell us what would make your kitchen run smoother.

Frequently Asked Questions

What comes in my order?

Meal Kit recipes include all of the ingredients needed to prepare your meal, excluding common kitchen staples such as salt, pepper, olive oil, and, for recipes that require them, eggs.

If your recipe calls for eggs, you can either use eggs you already have at home or add eggs through Blue Apron’s Everyday Essentials section before your order cutoff. Recipes that require eggs are clearly labeled before checkout, so you’ll know in advance if eggs are needed.

Why aren't eggs included in Meal Kits anymore?

Based on customer feedback, we’re giving customers more flexibility in how they receive everyday kitchen staples like eggs while lowering the price of recipes that require them.

Beginning with recipes shipping the week of August 10, eggs are no longer automatically included in Meal Kits. Instead, if your recipe calls for eggs, you can either use eggs you already have at home or add a pack of eggs through Blue Apron’s Everyday Essentials section before your order cutoff.

Recipes that require eggs are clearly labeled on the recipe page and recipe card. Eggs will also appear in the What You'll Need section before checkout, so you'll know in advance if they’re needed.

Why are eggs now sold separately?

We're introducing Everyday Essentials, a new way to shop for everyday kitchen staples through Blue Apron, starting with organic, pasture-raised eggs.

Making eggs an optional purchase allows us to lower the price of recipes that require eggs and pass those savings directly on to our customers. It also gives customers more flexibility to use eggs they already have at home or add them to their order when needed.

Will the price of my meal kit go down since eggs are no longer included?

Yes. Recipes that require eggs have been repriced to reflect that eggs are no longer included in Meal Kits. We've passed those savings directly on to our customers, so you'll pay less for recipes that call for eggs.
